If you were waiting for the truck wars to cool down, 2027 is not your year. Two of the five big full-size pickups are fully redesigned, the rest get meaningful updates, and the horsepower numbers read like a dare. All prices below include destination charges, per Edmunds.
Chevrolet Silverado & GMC Sierra: the big redesign
GM brought the heaviest artillery. The 2027 Silverado 1500 is fully redesigned — familiar silhouette, new everything underneath — headlined by two new small-block V8s that buck the downsizing trend by being larger than the engines they replace: a 5.7-liter making 402 hp and a 6.6-liter making 481 hp, the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in the class. The lineup also keeps a 350-hp 2.7-liter turbo four and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel — still a class exclusive — that's the fuel-economy pick. Properly configured, the Silverado tows up to 13,700 pounds and hauls 2,340 pounds of payload.
Inside, the redesign goes screen-heavy: an available three-display dash (12.2-inch cluster, 16.3-inch center screen, 11.5-inch passenger screen) plus head-up display and rear camera mirror totals roughly 60 inches of glass. Cab styles carry over — regular, extended, crew — across seven trims from Work Truck to High Country and the off-road ZR2. The Silverado starts at $41,395. The GMC Sierra 1500 shares the redesign, cabs, and powertrains with slightly lower max tow and payload ratings, positioned as the premium alternative from $51,295 — and adds a configurable Multi-Flex center console that flattens into a work surface.
Ford F-150: a smarter base engine, a V8 that spreads
Ford's updates are surgical. The base engine is new: a turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 replacing the old 2.7. Peak power is unchanged, but Ford says maximum torque arrives sooner, which should make the truck feel livelier off the line and around town. The optional 5.0-liter V8 becomes available across more of the lineup — good news for buyers who want the Coyote without climbing trims. There's also a new Carhartt edition based on the XLT with workwear-inspired interior materials, lower-priced Tremor and Raptor variants for stretched budgets, and BlueCruise hands-free driving that now works while towing — matching GM's Super Cruise. Estimated starting price: $40,500.
Ram 1500: Rumble Bee, and the TRX returns at 777 hp
Ram saved the loudest news for last. Two new versions debut for 2027. The Rumble Bee is a new line of wide-body street-performance trucks with a choice of three V8s, topped by a supercharged 6.2-liter making 777 hp — Ram claims a 170 mph top speed for the flagship SRT Rumble Bee, which is sports-car territory in a full-size pickup.
And for the dirt: the Ram 1500 SRT TRX is back after a brief hiatus, carrying that same 777-hp V8, a reworked suspension, and a plusher interior. Edmunds' assessment is that the TRX has not lost its off-road edge in the process — which, given that this is the truck that made jumping dunes a factory-warranty activity, is the only review that matters. The Ram 1500 line starts at $45,370.

Notice the pattern: in an era of downsized turbos and hybrids, all three brands led with displacement and horsepower — new V8s at GM, a more available V8 at Ford, a 777-hp supercharged V8 (twice) at Ram. Truck buyers keep voting with their wallets for cylinders, and for 2027 the manufacturers stopped arguing. If you tow, the Silverado's numbers lead the class. If you drive, the F-150's earlier torque and tow-capable BlueCruise are the quiet upgrades. If you simply want the most outrageous factory truck on sale, Ram just reclaimed that crown — on pavement with the Rumble Bee, and off it with the TRX.
